Santa Ana is the village on the southern edge of Antigua and one of the oldest settlements in the valley, with a hermitage that predates the capital itself. Today it runs straight into the city, and it is getting a lot of attention for exactly that reason: quiet, almost entirely residential, with very little commercial activity beyond the contemporary art space at La Nueva Fábrica, and still a pleasant walk into Antigua, a little longer than from the centre but an easy one.
Most of Santa Ana is open living rather than gated, with a few small gated communities mixed in, and homes range from traditional village houses to new builds. Airbnb rentals are popular here for private homes. It is an area to keep an eye on: when something comes available in Santa Ana, it tends not to wait long.
