San Miguel Dueñas is coffee and flower country, a little further out on the same road past Ciudad Vieja, about twenty to twenty five minutes from Antigua, in the flat Guacalate valley with Volcán Acatenango as the backdrop. It is famous for its garden centres: a lot of people from Antigua drive out here to buy plants for their gardens.
Because the land is level and lots are larger than anything near the city, this is where many of the region’s newer developments have been built, and there is a good choice of gated communities with new construction. If space and value per square metre matter more than being able to walk into Antigua, San Miguel Dueñas is where the search usually ends up.
