El Hato is a farming village on the ridge northeast of Antigua, about twenty minutes from the park, best known for Hobbitenango and Earth Lodge and the cluster of view lodges around them. It is noticeably cooler up here, and the appeal is country style living in a valley of its own: more land than anywhere close to Antigua, and in some cases views that are simply amazing. A 4×4 is not required, but it does not hurt, because some of the roads are steep.
One thing to check carefully on any lot up here is water. Access varies from parcel to parcel, some have it easily and some do not, so make sure it is confirmed before you commit. We can help you verify it.
